  • The meaning behind the NEW LOGO of Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish

The official new logo of Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish in Deer Park, NY, is rich in theological symbolism and historical depth, drawing from the sacred tradition of iconography to reflect the spiritual identity of our parish.

At the center are Saints Cyril and Methodius, the beloved “Apostles to the Slavs,” whose missionary zeal and sanctity continue to inspire the faithful to this day.

Saint Cyril (827- 869), born in Thessalonica, was a brilliant scholar, theologian, and linguist. He is best known for creating the Glagolitic alphabet, the first alphabet used to write the Old Church Slavonic language, which made the Scriptures and liturgy accessible to the Slavic peoples. Alongside his brother, he undertook the great task of translating the Gospels and liturgical texts, thus planting the seeds of Christian faith and culture in Eastern Europe.

Saint Methodius (815 – 885), the older brother of Cyril, was a monk and later a bishop. A man of deep faith and administrative skill, he oversaw the growth of the Slavic Church and defended its legitimacy before both political and ecclesiastical authorities. He suffered opposition and even imprisonment for his efforts to uphold the use of the Slavic language in the liturgy, but persevered with humility and steadfastness.

In the image, Saint Cyril is shown holding the Book of the Gospel, representing his role in translating the Sacred Scriptures in local languages. His brother, Saint Methodius is vested as a bishop, offering a gesture of blessing, symbolizing his pastoral mission and episcopal leadership.

Behind the saints stands a stylized church, a symbolic structure representing the Church that these two holy brothers helped establish and strengthen through their tireless evangelizing activity across Eastern Europe.

The entire image is encircled by a deep blue border with gold lettering that reads: Saints Cyril and Methodius – Deer Park, NY. Blue, in sacred art, represents heaven, wisdom, and divine mystery. Gold, the color of glory and sanctity, reminds us of the eternal light of Christ that guided the lives of our Patron Saints and continues to guide our parish community.

This logo is not merely decorative; it is a visual catechism: a reminder of our call to carry on the mission of Saints Cyril and Methodius by proclaiming the Gospel with courage, fidelity, and love.

  • Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Celebrated by the “Costantino Brumidi Lodge” at St. Cyril & Methodius Parish – Sunday, July 13, 2025

On Sunday, July 13, 2025, the Costantino Brumidi Lodge #2211 of the Order Sons & Daughters of Italy in America gathered at St. Cyril & Methodius Parish to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The celebration began with a brief but reverent procession inside the church, as members of the Lodge carried the beautifully adorned statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel to the sanctuary. This act of devotion marked the opening of the Solemn Mass, which was celebrated by the Pastor, Fr. Anthony, with Fr. Noel serving capably as Master of Ceremonies.

The parish of St. Cyril & Methodius is honored to host this cherished tradition. It was a joy to welcome the Lodge members and to witness their deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, a devotion that continues to enrich the spiritual fabric of our wider community.

The parish extends sincere thanks to the Costantino Brumidi Lodge and the Order Sons & Daughters of Italy in America for their dedication, service, and faithful presence.

May Our Lady of Mount Carmel bless them and intercede for us all.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us!

  • From our NEW Associate Pastor, Fr. Noel Sixon

Dear Parishioners of Ss. Cyril and Methodius,

First, I would like to thank God for giving me this chance to serve you in this beautiful parish.

I am Fr. Noel Sixon, a priest of the Diocese of Romblon in the Philippines. I have been working in the Diocese of Rockville Centre since 2018.

I was born on December 16, 1980, in Calatrava, Romblon, Philippines. I have finished my elementary and secondary education in the same town. After high school, I entered the San Lorenzo Ruiz Seminary, the new diocesan seminary of Romblon. After my pre-college at San Lorenzo Ruiz, I moved to Santo Nino Seminary in Numancia, Aklan, to finish my degree in Philosophical studies from 1996 to 2001. After finishing my philosophy, I moved to Tagaytay City, Philippines, to finish a degree in theology at the Divine Word School of Theology (DWST). In between my theological studies, I spent one year in Spiritual Formation in the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. I finished my degree in theological studies and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry in 2007.

I went home to my diocese for the pre-diaconal formation and got ordained to the diaconate in 2007. For my diaconal formation, my bishop assigned me to one of the Island parishes of the diocese where electricity runs only for five hours a day and water comes from the rain gathered during the rainy season.

I was ordained to the ministry of the priesthood on May 27, 2008. I was given my first assignment as associate pastor at St. Joseph the Worker parish for eight months. In 2009, I was appointed as pastor of Our Lady of Remedies Parish, Espana, San Fernando, Romblon, Philippines, until 2015. From mid-2015 to 2016, I was transferred as Pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Ferrol, Romblon, while at the same time a missionary preacher for the Diocese of Romblon. After one year, I was assigned as a chaplain of a mission station administering ten small chapels in three small islands of the diocese.

I started my ministry here in the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 2018 and up to the present. I was assigned to St. Patrick’s Church, Huntington, for seven years, and now I am starting my new journey with you here at Ss. Cyril and Methodius.

Please say a prayer for me as I begin my journey with you in this beautiful parish.

    Fr. Noel Sixon

  • FR. ANTHONY SALIBA: A NEW PASTOR FOR OUR PARISH

Fr. Anthony is originally from the small Mediterranean island of Malta, off the coast of Italy. As a seminarian, he completed his theological formation in Rome. Ordained to the priesthood in June 2001, he continued his academic work at the Gregorian University in Rome, earning degrees in Sacred Theology and Art. His ministry took him to the Ambrosian Diocese of Milan, where he served the local Church in Catholic schools and on college campuses, combining his artistic background with pastoral service.

In 2016, Fr. Saliba was welcomed into the Diocese of Rockville Centre, where he began his ministry at St. Raphael Parish in East Meadow, serving as Associate Pastor for five years. He then continued his pastoral work for three additional years as Associate Pastor at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Massapequa before dedicating the last year to teaching Latin at the parish schools of St. Mary’s in Manhasset, where he also served as Parish Administrator. He also serves as a chaplain at the Nassau County Correctional Facility in East Meadow.

Now, with deep gratitude and joy, Fr. Saliba has been appointed Pastor of our Parish of Saints Cyril and Methodius here in Deer Park. He is thankful to Bishop John Barres for this new mission and to his predecessor, Fr. Gius Garcia, for his generous support and welcome. With great trust in the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Patron Saints Cyril and Methodius, Fr. Saliba looks forward to journeying together with the parish community in faith, service, and love of Christ.
